GABBAfest 2019
The Georgia Allman Brothers Band Association is excited about our weekend lineup and events for GABBAfest 2019! This year GABBAfest will be “Celebrating 50 Years of the Allman Brothers Band”.
Kicking off Friday night will be the Oakley Project, led by Shaun Oakely. The grandson of founding ABB member Berry Oakley will also be performing with his band at our Sunday Hangover at the Big House.
The Melody Trucks Band is our second Friday night band. Melody, the daughter of founding ABB member Butch Trucks, has been getting rave reviews wherever she performs.
Our Friday night headliner is the Yeti Trio. The band formed in 1998 and features Eric Sanders on drums and percussion. Brooks Smith on keyboards and Vaylor Trucks on guitar and Moog synthesizer. Vaylor, the son of founding ABB member Butch Trucks, has performed at prior GABBAfests with the Freight Train Band and with Bonobos Convergence.
Saturday Night will feature an Evening with Friends of the Brothers, featuring Alan Paul, Junior Mack, Andy Aledort with guests Ron Holloway and Jeff Sipe. They are the premier tribute to the Allman Brothers Band, with most members of the group closely associated with the original band! Stay tuned for more additions to this lineup!
SATURDAY NIGHT AUCTION - Our annual auction will take place during our Saturday night show. We will have both silent and live bidding auction formats. We will have a myriad of rare collectibles, gifts and one of a kind art work all selling to the highest bidder.
Dirty Uncle Bob will be hosting the Members Jam on Saturday and performing there as well. They are fan favorites from Statesboro and did a great job hosting the jam in 2018.
Special Guest & Artist at Large –“Taz” Brandon Niederauer
Sixteen year old Brandon Niederauer, nicknamed “Taz” for his ferocious guitar playing has shared the stage with multiple members of the Allman Brothers Band, including Gregg Allman, Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Butch Trucks, and Oteil Burbridge.
Artist at Large – Paul Hornsby
Paul Hornsby played with Duane and Gregg Allman in the Hour Glass in 1967. After that time, Paul began a producing career, first with Capricorn Records, then as an independent. Paul owns Muscadine Studios in Macon and is represented in the Alabama Music Hall of Fame and the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.
Master Guitar Class with Andy Aledort –
Andy Aledort was a member of Dickey Betts and Great Southern for 12 years and toured and recorded with original Jimi Hendrix band mates Mitch Mitchell and Buddy Miles and Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Double Trouble. He has conducted hundreds of interviews and lessons with the world’s greatest guitarists for Guitar World and other publications. This class will be limited in size. More details will be announced at a later date.
Book Signing at Gallery West –
Authors Alan Paul, Sidney Smith, Willie Perkins and Kirk West will be on hand to autograph copies of their Allman Brothers books in honor of the 50th Anniversary! This event is schedule to run on Friday afternoon. Exact times and other information will be announced at a later date.
Friday Night Aftershow with The Jesse Williams Band at Grant’s Lounge –
Jesse Williams is a musician of many different roots of blues infused into a sound that is unforgettable. It is an experience that you will not forget from this Hendrix-Vaughan throwback!
GABBAfest Kick-Off at Gallery West – Sonny Moorman
Kick off GABBAfest 2019 at Gallery West with last year’s headliner Sonny Moorman. Exact times and other information will be announced at a later date.
Folk Art Blues Show – featuring the art of local artist, this show was a big hit a couple of weeks ago at Grant’s, and we are excited that the show , presented by John Mollica, will be returning for GABBAfest weekend! Johnny Mo is also making sure music is happening at Grant’s Saturday night.
Idlewild South will be appearing at the Back Porch lounge September 19th (a GABBA Members Pre-Jam!), 20th, and 21st. Idlewild South, The Allman Brothers Band Tribute, was founded by keyboardist and vocalist Don Eason. In the tradition of The Allman Brothers Band, Idlewild South’s live shows can exceed a staggering 3 1/2 to 4 hours in length, with different set lists each night.
Sanctified Revival will be at Billy’s Clubhouse, 1580 Forest Hill Road, on Friday, September 20th. Billy’s is close to the Tom Hill Sr Blvd/Arkwright Road exit on I-75.
The Hummingbird Stage and Taproom will feature shows that are included in the GABBAfest wristband. Artists to be announced at a later date.
